On December 9, 2023, the faculty invites you to Saturday Morning Physics. The speaker is Dr. Ancla Müller with a lecture on "Jellyfish in space - star formation and magnetic fields outside galaxies".
From the smallest particles to major discoveries - Saturday Morning Physics offers exciting physics topics for everyone. Lecturers from the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy present topics from various fields of physics in an understandable way. On December 9, 2023, Ancla Müller, astrophysicist at the Institute of Astronomy, will talk about "Jellyfish in space - star formation and magnetic fields outside galaxies":
Astronomers refer to galaxies that have a spiral appearance and trail a tail of gas behind them as "jellyfish". These objects can be discovered in the vicinity of galaxy clusters. Galaxy clusters are a collection of many galaxies that are gravitationally bound together and contain hot gas. Under certain conditions, the pressure of this gas complex can cause a gas tail to form behind a galaxy, giving the galaxies a jellyfish-like appearance. Stars can actively form in these gas tails.

The faculty cordially invites all interested parties to attend the lectures in the Pauluskirche Bochum in the winter semester. Please note: Due to the Christmas market, there will be no coffee service on this date.
