Meet Your Future offers students the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the diverse career paths of alumni from the Department Physics and Astronomy. In the following interview, physics student and seminar participant Henrik Frey explains the concept behind Meet Your Future, the program’s goals, and the added value it offers participants.
What is Meet Your Future all about?
Henrik: “Meet Your Future” is a series of seminars in which former students from our Department share Department personal and professional journeys. At each event, two alumni discuss their career paths and experiences. This is followed by an open Q&A session where students can engage directly with the guests. This creates a space where questions about career opportunities after studying physics can be openly discussed.
Who would find Meet Your Future particularly interesting?
Henrik: The seminar is aimed at all students who are thinking about their future careers or would like to explore new opportunities. The presentations highlight the variety of possible career paths—both in academia and in industry, business, or other professional fields—and provide authentic insights into the day-to-day work lives of alumni. Active participation may also count toward your bachelor’s or master’s degree, but the seminar is open to anyone interested, even without academic credit.
What will participants take away from the seminar?
Henrik: The alumni share their very diverse career paths and discuss, among other things, career opportunities both within and outside academia, international prospects, application processes, salary expectations, various work-schedule models, and work-life balance. What makes these events particularly valuable is that each one is shaped in part by the students’ questions. This leads to discussions on exactly the topics that matter most to the participants.
