On February 6, Department Ruhr Regional Competition Department German Young Physicists’ Tournament (GYPT) will take place at the Department ! GYPT is an experiment-based physics competition for students in grades 8 through 13.

The competition is similar to a scientific conference: over 50 talented pupils from Bochum and the surrounding area have been working intensively on one of 17 physics experiments since the summer. On February 6, they will present the results of their research projects in a 10-minute presentation. This will then be discussed and evaluated by an expert jury.

The nine best participants qualify for the German competition, which takes place in Bad Honnef at the beginning of March. There, the top ten will have the chance to take part in the international competition.

The regional competition begins at 1:00 p.m. in the Alfred Krupp Student Laboratory and ends around 6:00 p.m. following the awards ceremony. The GYPT Center in Bochum is a collaboration between the Physics Education Section of the Department and the Matthias-Claudius Comprehensive School in Bochum and the MCS Junior Academy. Founded 8 years ago, it is now the largest regional center in Germany in terms of the number of participants.

Pupils, parents, teachers and other interested parties are cordially invited to watch the competition. We look forward to an inspiring exchange and exciting discoveries.
