Girls’ Day on April 23, 2026: A Day as a Particle Physicist

04.04.26 | Event

Want to know what our world is made of at its core? Then come on over and join us as we dive into the fascinating world of the smallest building blocks of matter! Together, we’ll get to the bottom of some exciting questions: What exactly is radioactivity? How can we make invisible particles visible? And how does a particle detector work?

Join our Girls’ Day event for high school students ages 16 and up!

For example, you can build your own cloud chamber and use it to make traces of radioactive radiation visible—a real highlight that lets you experience physics firsthand!

You’ll also learn more about two exciting experiments (LHCb and AMBER) at CERN, the world’s largest particle accelerator facility, through short, easy-to-understand presentations. During a lab tour at RUB, you’ll also get a sense of what modern research looks like right here on campus.

How does one actually become a particle physicist?

Ask your questions directly to female physicists at various stages of their careers—from students to professors. They’ll share their journey into research, their daily life in the lab, and their experiences in an international research environment. The series also includes insights from a male perspective.

Curious? Then join us and discover just how exciting and diverse physics can be—maybe this is your path to the future!
