On Monday, November 6, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. c.t., the next meeting of our Physics Colloquium will take place.
The speaker is Prof. Dr. Zhe Wang (TU Dortmund University) on the topic "More than one century of the 1D Ising model: Any new physics we can still learn?".
Since the invention of the Lenz-Ising model in 1920, the one-dimensional (1D) spin models have been extensively investigated and become textbook examples for illustrating basic physical concepts, such as spin excitation, fractionalization, and phase transition. I will present our recent experimental findings in solid-state realizations of the 1D Heisenberg-Ising models. In particular, I will discuss on the experimental observation of featured 1D quantum spin excitations, including confined spinons, many-body Bethe strings, and E8 particles.
