On Saturday, November 12, 2022, the Bochum Fall Meeting of Amateur Astronomy was held at the RUB.
Amateur astronomers from all over Germany gathered last Saturday at Ruhr University Bochum for the 39th Bochum Autumn Conference on Amateur Astronomy. The event, which is usually held annually, had to be suspended for the past two years due to the pandemic, making it all the more gratifying that the conference was able to take place in person again this year, subject to COVID-19 restrictions. The event was hosted by the Astronomical Institute of the Department Physics and Astronomy at RUB in collaboration with the Association of Stargazers.
From astrophotography to volcanism
The more than 130 participants were offered an entertaining and exciting program on Saturday. Besides a technical lecture on the occasion of the DART mission with the topic "Defense against asteroids and comets - How big is the threat and what can we do against it? (Dr.-Ing. Christian Gritzner), there were numerous other lectures from the demanding amateur practice, from "Infrared Astronomy for Amateur Observers" to astrophotography. During the conference, the Reiff Foundation for the Promotion of Amateur and School Astronomy again awarded prizes for particularly successful astronomical projects in youth work in schools and kindergartens. At the end of the successful conference, the participants met for dinner and a pleasant evening.
