Online group initial counselling of the International Office
If you are interested in a stay abroad during your studies and do not yet know exactly where to go, you can participate in our online and face-to-face information events of the International Office in the winter semester 2023/24. Here you will be comprehensively informed about all exchange, scholarship and funding opportunities. Prior registration is not required.
General information about stays abroad
The beginning of the winter semester marks the start of the application round for stays abroad via the RUB exchange programs, which are scheduled to take place in the academic year 2024/25 (winter semester 2024/25 and/or summer semester 2025). All exchange places are free of tuition fees.
RUB students who wish to remain in Europe can apply within their own Department or school for Erasmus program. Applications must be submitted to the Erasmus program coordinator Department respective Department faculty. Accordingly, the required documents and application deadlines may vary from one program coordinator to another. In general, the deadlines for study abroad programs in the 2024/25 academic year (both the 2024/25 winter semester and the 2025 summer semester) fall between November 2023 and February 2024.
Students who decide to a semester or year abroad outside of Europe can can apply for a place at one of RUB's partner universities at the International Office. For stays abroad at partner universities in the USA via the MAUI Utrecht Network Exchange Program, in Australia via the AEN Utrecht Network Exchange Program, and at universities in France, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, the deadline is December 1, 2023, 23:59.
PROMOS
As part of the funding program PROMOS , Ruhr University Bochum will continue to have funds available in 2024 to support student mobility. RUB students from all departments are eligible to apply if they are planning a stay abroad to complete their thesis, an internship abroad (excluding Erasmus program countries), or a study abroad program through an exchange program organized by the International Office or the departmentsinstitutes at a foreign partner university of the RUB worldwide (except in Erasmus program countries), as well as faculty members who wish to receive funding for study trips. The application deadline for the next round isNovember 1 , 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Two additional deadlines for the 2024 funding year are in March 2024 and June 2024.
Language Café Bochum
In cooperation with the AKAFÖ Bochum and the Center for Foreign Language Education the International Office presents the Language Café Bochum. The Sprachcafé takes place both online and in presence. RUB students can deepen and practice their foreign language skills every Monday evening. The Sprachcafé starts on October 16, 2023.
DAAD Language Certificate
At the Center for Foreign Language Education (ZFA) of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, all RUB students can obtain a DAAD language certificate for English. The next test date is Monday, October 16, 2023. The DAAD language certificate is also offered for French and Spanish.
ERASMUS Internship Funding
If you are planning an internship in another European country that is at least 60 days long, you can get Erasmus internship grant apply. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, but must be received at least one month before the start of the internship.
RISE Worldwide
RISE Worldwide: In the summer of 2024, bachelor's students in biology, chemistry, physics, geosciences, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, applied mathematics, applied computer science, or related disciplines will again have the opportunity to work with researchers* around the world who want to include German students in their research group to provide practical support for their project. From October 15 until November 30, 2023, interested Bachelor students can apply for a research internship.
Foreign Language Assistance Program (FSA)
Improve your own foreign language skills, get students excited about German as a foreign language, acquire intercultural skills and immerse yourself in the everyday life of the host country: The Foreign Language Assistantship (FSA)program of the Pedagogical Exchange Service (PAD) makes all of this possible for students - depending on the destination country, by the way, not only for subjects of the teaching profession. The program can be completed in 13 target countries - from Australia to Ireland. RUB students can apply until January 6, 2024 (for the USA until November 11, 2023).
Teaching.International
Some time ago, the DAAD launched a new support program for prospective teachers, Lehramt.International. Applicants can receive funding for a self-organized internship at school institutions abroad for one to six months. This can be a voluntary internship, but also a mandatory internship.
GermanTeach.International
We would like to draw your attention to the current scholarship announcement of the DAAD program Deutschlehren.International - Teaching Assistantships for German at Universities Abroad. The application portal is already open; applications can be submitted from now until December 5, 2023.
Tandem.MINT
The Language Tandem Program Tandem.MINT enables students of scientific and technical courses of study to learn languages on an individual and subject-related basis: In an exchange with a tandem partner who speaks your target language as a native language or at a high level, you can expand your foreign language skills and at the same time test your intercultural communication skills. As a student of a STEM degree program at RUB, you can register until October 15, 2023 to participate in the winter semester 2023/24.
Transatlantic Ruhr Fellowship 2024
Transatlantic Ruhr Fellowship 2024: Every summer, highly motivated and high-achieving students from the University Alliance Ruhr can first develop their intercultural skills in a summer school and then gain practical experience in an internship in the New York metropolitan region. The Transatlantic Ruhr Fellowship 2024 will take place from July 27 to September 22, 2024. The application deadline is November 15, 2023.
