Inside RUB: A Look Back at the 2026 Open House

June 15, 2026 | Prospective Students

On June 11, 2026, theDepartment Ruhr University Bochum opened its doors to all prospective students. The open house featured a diverse program ranging from exciting workshops and lab tours to spectacular experiments. The program wasdepartments in collaboration with four otherdepartments : The NaWigator is a collaboration among departments natural science departments RUB, dedicated to sharing their passion for the natural sciences and providing prospective students with insights into STEM programs.

A Day Full of Science and Discoveries

The day began with the NaWigator Mile, where visitors could experience the natural sciences firsthand: There were experiments, brain teasers, VR experiences, music, and snacks. Students and scientists were on hand to provide information about degree programs and the various study options. Lab tours in particle physics and a workshop on plasmas, where participants could conduct their own experiments, offered exciting insights into the work of physicists. Another highlight was the “Battle of the Elements,” an experimental showdown between chemistry and physics that thrilled the crowd with lots of bangs, flashes, and other spectacular effects. The event concluded with a tour of the campus observatory, where visitors could explore the telescopes and astronomical instruments.

We were very happy to share our enthusiasm for the natural sciences. We’d like to thank the research staff who participated in the program by leading workshops, guided tours, and lectures and offering consultations; the Physics Student Council, which provided refreshments; and the Physics Band, which created a great atmosphere at the NaWi-Meile.
