Students enrolled in the “Plasma Diagnostics” course from this and previous semesters visited Avantes in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, on June 3, 2022. The Dutch company specializes in so-called handheld or USB spectrometers and related accessories. These spectrometers are used for species identification as well as for monitoring plasmas.
During the excursion, insights into production and new developments were given in addition to further application possibilities. In two small workshops, current plasma-relevant diagnostics could be applied live, Raman spectroscopy and laser emission spectroscopy (LIPS), which directly closed the circle to the lecture.
Students from Department Physics and Astronomy who are writing their theses as part of SFB 1316 took part in the trip. They were supported by the Department.
