Saturday Morning Physics on 10.12.22: Plasmas for the energy transition

30.11.22 | Saturday Morning Physics, Event

On December 10, 2022, the Department invites you Department Saturday Morning Physics. This time, the speaker will be Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell, who will discuss the topic “Plasmas for the Energy Transition.”

Whether it’s the tiniest particles or major discoveries—Saturday Morning Physics offers exciting physics topics for everyone. Lecturers from the Department Physics and Astronomy present topics from various fields of physics in an accessible way. On December 10, 2022, Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell, a plasma physicist in experimental physics, will give a lecture on the topic “Plasmas for the Energy Transition”:

The energy transition is a central challenge of our time. Away from fossil energy sources to renewable ones. The primary energy source in the future will be electricity, and this creates a great need for new technologies for energy storage and the conversion from thermal processes to electricity-driven ones. The future is electric! Plasmas, a partially ionized gas, play a major role in this conversion because they are electrically generated and one can optimally use this electrical energy to convert it into chemical energy. Examples are the synthesis of molecules, the reduction of CO2 but also the production of numerous thin film materials that make processes more energy efficient. This talk will discuss numerous examples of how plasmas play a central role here in meeting the challenges of the energy transition.

Prof. Dr Achim von Keudell

The Department cordially Department all interested parties to attend the lectures this winter semester. As in previous years, fresh waffles and coffee will be served before the lecture. Here you will find all the information regarding the start time and location of the lectures:
