Mouse Day 2023: Physics fun for over 70 children

October 31, 2023 | Department, Mouse Day

On October 3, the Department Physics and Astronomy participated for the seventh time in the "Türenöffnertag" event organized by the TV show *Die Sendung mit der Maus*.

At Department open house in early October, curious Mouse fans were Department sparkling fizzing rockets, giant rings of fog, sour lemon batteries, and much more. After a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Ralf-Jürgen Dettmar, Dr. Niklas Fornefeld treated the more than 70 children and their parents to an exciting physics show. He received active support from lecture hall technicians Hanno Niesler and Volker Hegenberg.

Following the opening show, thanks to volunteers from the Department , there were Department stations where the children could marvel at the exhibits and conduct their own experiments. Among other things, the young explorers could learn about plasmas and their applications, build and launch their own shower rocket, discover the world of star charts, enjoy delicious nitrogen ice cream, learn how to make an alarm clock ring using lemons, discover experiments to try at home, and participate in exciting experiments in the lecture hall.
Thanks to the student council and numerous cake donations, refreshments were also provided for all guests.
At the end, all the children received a “Mouse Diploma” and a surprise, and the team and the event received a lot of positive feedback.

We are already looking forward to the next Mouse Day!
