Faculty of Physics and Astronomy

Saturday Morning Physics on 10.12.22: Plasmas for the energy transition

11/30/22 | Saturday Morning Physics, Event

On December 10, 2022, the faculty invites you to the Saturday Morning Physics. This time, the speaker is Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell on the topic of "Plasmas for the Energy Transition".

Whether it's the smallest particles or great discoveries - Saturday Morning Physics offers exciting physics topics for everyone. The lecturers of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy present topics from different fields of physics in an understandable way. On December 10, 2022, Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell, plasma physicist in experimental physics, will talk about "Plasmas for the energy transition":

The energy transition is a central challenge of our time. Away from fossil energy sources to renewable ones. The primary energy source in the future will be electricity, and this creates a great need for new technologies for energy storage and the conversion from thermal processes to electricity-driven ones. The future is electric! Plasmas, a partially ionized gas, play a major role in this conversion because they are electrically generated and one can optimally use this electrical energy to convert it into chemical energy. Examples are the synthesis of molecules, the reduction of CO2 but also the production of numerous thin film materials that make processes more energy efficient. This talk will discuss numerous examples of how plasmas play a central role here in meeting the challenges of the energy transition.

Prof. Dr Achim von Keudell

The faculty cordially invites all interested persons to attend the lectures during the winter semester. As in previous years, there will be fresh waffles and coffee before the lecture. Here you can find all information about the start and location of the lectures:
