The Department Physics and Astronomy mourns the loss of its longtime staff member and colleague, Bernd Neubacher.
Bernd Neubacher had been a technical employee at the Chair of Theoretical Physics IV since 1995. He died suddenly at the age of 63.
From the very beginning—initially in collaboration with Dr. Udo Arendt—Mr. Neubacher continued to develop the IT infrastructure within his areas of responsibility and drove the digitalization process Department at the chair and throughout the Department . He was responsible for many concepts and innovative projects, such as the SÜDPOL seminar and lab room, which he established in 2001 together with his colleagues. Over the years, Mr. Neubacher’s scope of responsibilities continued to grow, and other chairs and the dean’s office frequently benefited from his extensive expertise, which he always offered selflessly.
He has enriched Theoretical Physics IV, the Department Ruhr University Bochum with his ideas, actions, and constructive feedback, leaving a lasting impact in many ways. As a long-time instructor at RUB, Mr. Neubacher placed great importance on providing high-quality, well-founded, and sustainable IT training across the entire campus. His expertise and years of experience working with servers (and people) in the departments and the Dean’s Office, his unwavering dedication, and above all his good-natured and friendly disposition are irreplaceable. Whether the topic was professional or personal, Bernd Neubacher always had an open ear for his colleagues and was always ready with encouraging words and sound advice.
We are deeply shocked by Bernd Neubacher's death. We have suddenly and unexpectedly lost an empathetic and dear colleague, companion, trainer and friend. In every action he took, Bernd Neubacher put the good of the community and the goal of making things better in the long term first, and especially before his own personal needs.
Dear Bernd, as one of Department guiding lights, you Department inspired so many people, supported them over the years, and always been there to help—unconditionally, unconventionally, and without delay. We will miss you.
