On Saturday, November 12, 2022, the Bochum Fall Meeting of Amateur Astronomy was held at the RUB.

Amateur astronomers from all over Germany came together for the 39th time last Saturday for the Bochum Fall Meeting of Amateur Astronomy at the Ruhr University. The otherwise annual event had to be suspended in the past two years due to the pandemic, the greater the joy that the conference could take place again this year under Corona conditions in presence. The Astronomical Institute of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of the RUB in cooperation with the Association of Friends of the Stars had invited to the event.

From astrophotography to volcanism

The more than 130 participants were offered an entertaining and exciting program on Saturday. Besides a technical lecture on the occasion of the DART mission with the topic "Defense against asteroids and comets - How big is the threat and what can we do against it? (Dr.-Ing. Christian Gritzner), there were numerous other lectures from the demanding amateur practice, from "Infrared Astronomy for Amateur Observers" to astrophotography. During the conference, the Reiff Foundation for the Promotion of Amateur and School Astronomy again awarded prizes for particularly successful astronomical projects in youth work in schools and kindergartens. At the end of the successful conference, the participants met for dinner and a pleasant evening.
