The GYPT Ruhr 2024 regional competition was once again a complete success this year. Nine of the participating students are moving on to the national competition in Bad Honnef.

On February 1, 2024, young physics enthusiasts from the region gathered in Bochum for the annual regional GYPT (German Young Physicists' Tournament) tournament. The competition offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their enthusiasm for physics and put their knowledge to the test in a challenging competition. The participants research one of 17 physical phenomena for which no solution is yet known. The young researchers summarize their results in a 12-minute presentation, which they present to the expert jury and other research teams in English. The solutions are then discussed with the other teams.

There was something new this time at the Ruhr Regional Competition on February 1, 2024. Due to the large number of 25 students, a shortened form was introduced in addition to the normal competition. It was aimed at pupils in Year 8 who were taking part in the GYPT competition for the first time. They presented their results in a presentation in English. For the older students, each match consisted as usual of a presentation followed by a discussion. This time, three teams were entered for the GYPT national competition in Bad Honnef: Azad Burulday, Niklas Brunke, Theis Gaedigk, Hassan Hassan, Paula Nellessen, Evelyn Omosanya, Sandro Scheel, Anna Stepanyan and Mara Walke. They are competing with the experiments Juicy Solar Cell, Ruler Trick, Magnetic Gear; Magnetic Levitation and Quantum Light Dimmer.
Once again, we would like to thank the students, teaching staff and employees of the university who were involved in the four juries.
